A couple weeks ago we had the privilege to spend an evening with Paulo and Polina. They used to own their own pizza shop, so Polina wanted to teach me how to make pizza from scratch. We had such a blast hanging out together and tossing the pizza dough in the air!! So fun! We made around 12 pieces of pizza, and all different kinds: from four cheeses to chocolate.
The most recent report on how they are doing is: GREAT! They haven't been back to the streets to prostitute since their wedding. They have however gone out to do ministry on their own. Eventually they would like to go with us sometime too. Something amazing is happening in their hearts and they are really allowing God to touch them and love on them and the kids.
When they went to the street, they ran into a friend and told him there was so much more for him. He's an alcoholic and has been living on the streets homeless for about 6 years total (3 years in New Jersey and 3 years here in Curitiba). His name is Richard, and we had ran into him too a couple of times. He didn't come off the streets the nights either of us talked with him, however sadly he ended up in the hospital one night because of a fight he was in. Paulo and Polina went to visit him in the hospital and told him this was his last chance, that next time he might not make it out alive. Good news is, he took their advice and Richard too is now off the streets!! Paulo and Polina invited him to stay with them until he got things figured out more. He has now been clean for about a month and is doing well. He was there for pizza night, so it was great to catch up with him then. Nic also allowed him to use his phone so he could contact his family (who still live in the states).
This weekend we might see them again, Paulo wants to come over to our house and cookout with us, we can't wait!
Occasionally we have dates and appointments with some other friends who we've met on the streets, we'll go, and they wont show up :( It's sad because we love spending time with all of them, but it's hard when they don't show up. However, God is so good, and we are able to get ahold of them and still communicate with them. AND continue trying to get together with them.
Please continue to pray for these men and women we come in contact with. God has been doing some great things in the hearts of the prostitutes and transvestites we meet, however they still have a long way to go AND we know there is freedom in their future!!
FUN FACT: This past month we went to Parque Barigui in Curitiba. This park is filled with the largest rodents in the world, do you know what it is?
It's called the Capybara, in portuguese it's spelled Capivara. They can weigh up to 140lbs and on average be around 4ft in length. They love to sunbathe and are great swimmers.
Have an amazing day friends and family. Lot's of stuff coming up in the next couple of weeks so be looking forward to a big report in a couple of weeks!!
Love you lots, see some of you soon!!
